Glimmers......

Image
Have you heard the term "glimmer"? It basically means some small thing that brings joy, peace, or calm. I hope that you find glimmers all throughout your day. And that you take a few seconds to acknowledge it and soak in the feeling.

Potatoes....

The potato. Tater, spud, whatever you call it. Such a humble root vegetable.  If you don't know, potatoes grow underground. There are many varieties. They can be cooked in many ways. And they are usually pretty inexpensive to buy. According to the FDA, one medium potato, about 5.3oz, has 110 calories. 0 fat. 0 sodium. About 18% of the daily value (DV) of potassium. 9% total carbs and 8% dietary fiber. Small amounts of sugar, protein, calcium, and iron; but has 45%DV of Vit C. Who knew?   A few days ago, I was planning on clam chowder for dinner. I needed 2 potatoes. Off to the store. I get there and find the russet baking potatoes for $.99 a pound. Turn around and see 10lb bags of the same potato on sale for $2.99. Do I need 10 lbs. of spuds? No, but for that price, I bought the bag.   Fried potatoes, mashed taters, french fries, hash browns, baked taters, pureed taters, au gratin, hasselback.... there’s no doubt so many more options of how to use th...

Getting a bonus...

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Fetch. I just enjoy getting something extra for the shopping I do anyway. So, since we all need to buy groceries, why not get something extra from it. You've probably heard of this app called Fetch Rewards. You do your shopping, snap a picture of your receipt, and boom, points. You can also connect your different accounts, like Safeway or Amazon. It will automatically check for receipts and give you points next time you open your Fetch app. Each receipt is at least 25 points. Depending on the products you buy, or where you shop, you can earn more points. Sometimes you can get 900 points for any receipt from Safeway. Currently, if you spend $3 on Pasta Roni or Rice-A-Roni, you get a bonus 2000 points. Things like that. It adds up quickly.  You can cash in your points for different gift cards. They offer a large selection to choose from. I just cashed out my points for a $50 Home Depot gift card. I already have over 13000 points towards my n...

Prices and Coupons

Image
Everybody buys groceries. We're all seeing the prices increase.  During a shopping trip a couple months ago, I noticed a couple in the meat department. Like all of us, they were walking along, checking prices, chatting quietly with each other. He was visibly frustrated and spoke louder than he probably meant to when he exclaimed that "we just can't afford meat anymore." It really sucks because nobody should have to feel like that. I live in a small town in a very rural area. We travel about 45 miles, one way, twice a month, to shop at a bigger grocery store. Better variety and sometimes, better prices. We do have 2 small stores here. The one thing they all seem to have adopted is using digital coupons. While it would be amazing to see prices come down, until that happens, the one thing we can do is make the most of the digital coupons offered.  I always check on the categories section on the Safeway app . Scroll to the bottom option that says "special offers...
