Prices and Coupons
Everybody buys groceries. We're all seeing the prices increase.
During a shopping trip a couple months ago, I noticed a couple in the meat department. Like all of us, they were walking along, checking prices, chatting quietly with each other. He was visibly frustrated and spoke louder than he probably meant to when he exclaimed that "we just can't afford meat anymore." It really sucks because nobody should have to feel like that.
I live in a small town in a very rural area. We travel about 45 miles, one way, twice a month, to shop at a bigger grocery store. Better variety and sometimes, better prices. We do have 2 small stores here. The one thing they all seem to have adopted is using digital coupons.
While it would be amazing to see prices come down, until that happens, the one thing we can do is make the most of the digital coupons offered.
I always check on the categories section on the Safeway app. Scroll to the bottom option that says "special offers". I feel like this is a category that gets overlooked. Right now, there is an offer in it for 15% off if you spend over $200. Spend $150+ and save 10%. Spend $75+ and save 5%.
There is also a bonus path offer. If you spend $350 throughout the month, you'll get a bonus 700 points. You can use that 700 points for $10 off your purchase or $.70 off a gallon of fuel.
As well as the offers for bonus points on certain products. It all adds up, especially on top of the normal coupons offered in the app. Take the extra 5-10 minutes and clip all the coupons you can use. The image below is my savings from my latest shopping trip. I clipped all the coupons offered that applied to what I was buying. I used 800 points that I had previously earned. I used 700 for $10 off my basket. I also used 100 points for a free bag of baby carrots.
I also had a coupon from Organic Valley that I received in a newsletter from them. It was a buy one product, get one free. Up to a $10 value for the free item. I was able to buy a carton of organic milk and a large carton of half & half and only paid $6.99, instead of $13.98. Would I normally have bought that brand? No, because it's not on sale as often as the others and usually a couple dollars more. But, the coupon made it worth it to get them this time.
Good luck on your shopping. Clip those coupons and watch the deals. We all deserve to be able to have meat on our tables.
